At the Brisbane Oratory in Formation, something very important to our work is to provide guidance in prayer and formation for the lay faithful. This was very close to the heart of St Philip Neri, our founder, who created the Oratory in order to serve what was called the Secular Oratory. The Secular Oratory is made of the laity who attach themselves to the Oratory for spiritual exercises, and we are pleased to announce the beginning of the Men’s and Women’s Secular Oratory here in Brisbane!
Men’s and Women’s Oratory are regular sessions of prayer, formation and fellowship for laypeople. Beginning in October, the Fathers of the Brisbane Oratory in Formation will begin monthly evening sessions of Secular Oratory for adult men and women. The sessions will include a short sermon, time for meditation, prayer, and discussion – all centred on growth in the Christian life.
Secular Oratory begins at 7:30pm at Mary Immaculate church and goes for one hour. The dates for the next few months are:
- 12th of October – Men’s Oratory
- 7th of November – Women’s Oratory
- 14th of December – Men’s Oratory
- 6th of February – Women’s Oratory
