On this day in 629, the true Cross on which Christ died was recovered and brought back to Jerusalem by Emperor Heralius after it had been taken by the Persians. Hence on this day the Church has celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. To mark this feast there will be a procession with a Relic of the True Cross followed by a Solemn High Mass and an opportunity to venerate the relic. Today is one of triumphant celebration for it is on the cross that Christ won our redemption.
