The Procurator-General of the Congregation of the Oratory, Mario A. Avilés, C.O., has appointed Fr Uwe Michael Lang as his delegate to guide the Brisbane Oratory in Formation in its establishment.

Fr Lang arrives in Australia towards the end of the week of September 9th and will join the three priests who will form the Oratory Community for a week of prayer, meeting and retreat.

Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Brisbane was delighted to hear the news and passed on his best wishes to the Community saying, “I welcome the appointment of Fr Michael Lang CO as the delegate of the Procurator General to guide the Brisbane Oratory in Formation in its establishment. This signals another step forward in the life of the community in formation.”

Fr Uwe Michael Lang, a native of Germany, is a member of the Congregation of the Oratory of St Philip Neri in London, where he serves as Parish Priest. He holds a doctorate in theology from Oxford and is a Lecturer in Theology at Heythrop College in the University of London. He is the Editor of Antiphon: A Journal for Liturgical Renewal.

He was a staff member of the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church (2007-2008) and of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (2008-2012).

He is a Consultor to the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff and a member of the interdicasterial commission “Anglicanae Traditiones” preparing liturgical books for the Personal Ordinariates for former Anglicans.

He has published on Patristic and liturgical studies, including his book Turning Towards the Lord: Orientation in Liturgical Prayer (2nd edition, San Francisco 2009), which came out first in German in 2003 with a preface by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and has since been translated into various languages. His most recent book is The Voice of the Church at Prayer: Reflections on Liturgy and Language (San Francisco 2012).
